The only city in the world with a 32-story cemetery, what is the real story behind this unique work?

The world's population is growing rapidly. Not only is there a shortage of housing for the living, but it is also becoming increasingly difficult to find a suitable eternal resting place after death.

The number of deaths in the world is also increasing rapidly and it is time that there is no place to bury in the cemetery.

In some societies corpses are cremated and buried, while in the divine religions the dead are buried. Graves and land are dwindling due to population growth.

To overcome this problem, in some countries the practice of building cemeteries in the form of buildings instead of ground cemeteries is on the rise. Due to the availability of land for graves and the proportion of the population, construction of a high-rise building began in 1983 in the Brazilian city of Santos, which has now become the tallest cemetery in the world and is listed in the Guinness World Records. It has also been in the Book of Records.

This beautiful 32-storey building at the foot of a mountain is 108 meters high. Her name is Memorial Necropolis Echomanica. It also has a lawn, parking lot, a church, a garden, a waterfall and a restaurant. There are several blocks in 32 floors and each block has 150 tombs.

In addition, there are six tombs in each tomb. This lofty cemetery can accommodate 25,000 corpses at a time. Here the bodies are kept on rent for three years and after three years the remains are handed over to the heirs so that they can be buried or disposed of elsewhere. There are proper ventilation arrangements to keep the graves cool.

The higher the tomb, the higher the price. The building has become a major tourist attraction in Brazil and millions of tourists come here to see the sights. However, the burial of corpses is becoming a serious problem for the living people living in the world because the world is just a cabin and we have to go to our final resting place anyway.

کچھ معاشروں میں لاشوں کو جلا کر ٹھکانے لگایا جاتا ہے جبکہ الہامی مذاہب میں میت کو دفن کرتے ہیں۔ آبادی بڑھنے کے باعث قبریں اور زمین کم پڑتی جا رہی ہیں۔

اس مسئلے پر قابو پانے کے لئے بعض ممالک میں زمینی قبرستان کی بجائے عمارت کی شکل میں عمودی قبرستانوں کا رواج بڑھ رہا ہے۔ قبروں کیلئے زمین کی دستیابی اور آبادی کے تناسب کے پیش نظر برازیل کے شہر سینٹوس میں 1983ء میں ایک بلند و بالا عمارت کی تعمیر شروع ہوئی، جو اب دنیا کی سب سے اونچی قبرستانی عمارت بن چکی ہے اور اس قبرستان کی عمارت کا اندراج گنیز ورلڈ بک آف ریکارڈ میں بھی ہو چکا ہے۔

یہ ایک پہاڑ کے دامن میں 32 منزلہ خوبصورت عمارت 108 میٹر بلند ہے۔ اس کا نام میموریل نیکرو پول ایکو مینیکا ہے۔ اس کے احاطہ میں لان، پارکنگ، چرچ، باغ ایک آبشار اور ریسٹورنٹ بھی موجود ہیں۔ 32 منزلوں میں کئی بلاکس ہیں اور ہر بلاک میں 150 مقبرے ہیں۔

اس کے علاوہ ہر مقبرے میں چھ قبریں بنی ہیں۔ اس بلند و بالا قبرستان میں ایک وقت میں 25000 میتوں کی گنجائش ہے۔ یہاں تین سال تک لاشیں کرائے پہ رکھی جاتی ہیں اور تین سال بعد ان کی باقیات ورثا کے حوالے کرتے ہیں تاکہ کسی اور جگہ دفن کر سکیں یا پھر ضائع کرسکیں۔ قبروں کو ٹھنڈا رکھنے کیلئے ہوا کے گزرنے کے مناسب انتظامات ہیں۔

قبر جتنی اونچائی پر ہوگی اِس کی قیمت بھی اتنی ہی زیادہ ہوگی۔ یہ عمارت برازیل کا بہت بڑا سیاحتی مقام بن چکی ہے اور لاکھوں سیاح یہاں کے مناظر دیکھنے کے لئے آتے ہیں ۔ تاہم دنیا میں بسنے والے زندہ لوگوں کے لئے لاشوں کی تدفین ایک سنگین مسئلہ بنتا جارہا ہے کیونکہ دنیا تو بس مسافر خانہ ہے اور ہمیں اپنی آخری آرام گاہوں میں ہر صورت جانا ہے۔.
